BSE "fiasco" set to be repeated, says Greenpeace
Article Abstract:
It is likely that the UK will see a crisis develop connected with genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), according to environmental organization Greenpeace. Politicians are making the same mistakes with GMOs as they did with BSE, and are therefore in danger of making GMOs a serious threat to public health and to the environment. GMOs are similar to BSE in that it will take a long time before problems can be identified.

Genetically modified soybeans coming to Europe
Article Abstract:
Europe is to import genetically modified American soybeans in Nov. 1996. The soyabeans, which are unaffected by the herbicidal action of weedkiller Round-Up, are cheaper to produce and kinder to the environment than unmodified beans. Like unmodified beans they contain oil and are a good source of protein. Over sixty percent of Europe's soybean imports are American.
