Though it is difficult to verify the condition or provenance of online lots of wine, the sites make fine wine available to consumers even in remote areas. Tips for bidding on wine and a list of related Web sites are included.

Davis advises them to be careful about the auction market in California because of the instability of prices. Buyers at wine auctions should not be misled into paying more than the amount charged by retail outlets. There are times when wines displayed at auctions are available elsewhere at lower prices. Only new products that are not yet available in retail shelves or scarce vintages are worth the higher prices.
