Crunch time for Ankerbrot
Article Abstract:
Austrian bakery store chain Ankerbrot, which is 74 percent owned by Muller-Brot of Germany, has held an extraordinary general meeting and asked directors to approve a clause that would exempt the company from Austrian takeover regulations and free any future purchaser from obligations to buy out minority shareholders. Muller-Brot claims it has no plans to dispose of its Ankerbrot holdings, but its financial state is precarious. Investors may be sought to obtain capital for a business overhaul, but Ankerbrot chief executive Otto Mayer is determined to keep trade rivals out of the group. The company is likely to seek financing from banks, prompting intense industry speculation.
