French exports boosted by higher demand for processed foodstuffs

France has seen a 2% rise in food exports to more than 200 billion French francs since the start of the 1990s, with exports of processed food products rising by 9%. The fats and sugar sector saw the greatest rise within the processed foods category, with chocolate the best performer. Dairy product exports increased signficantly within the EU. Non-processed foodstuff exports dropped by 9% in 1994, and cereal exports were down 26%.

Philip Morris second quarter profits boosted by tobacco and North American food divisions
Article Abstract:
Philip Morris of the US, a tobacco and food company, reported an increase in second quarter profit of 14.4% to $1.4 billion, helped by the international tobacco division. Global food sales rose 9.3% to $7.5 billion, and Kraft Foods sales increased 4.3% to $4.6 billion in North America. The International Food division saw overal sales volume fall because of lower sales in western Europe.

French minister wants more innovation in food industry
Article Abstract:
The new French food minister, Philippe Vasseur, wants the food industry to become more unifed, and to move towards innovation and exportation. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will promote the food industry based on the reputation of French cuisine throughout the world. All levels of the food industry will be involved in the export programme.
