Diageo results show merger is working

UK food and drink company has reported its financial results for FY 1998, with operating profit reaching 1.9 billion pounds sterling, up 5% from 1997. The group's packaged food division continues to flourish, with operating profits for the year reaching 447 million pounds sterling, against 423 million pounds sterling in 1997. Operating profit for the fast food division amounted to 179 million pounds sterling for 1998, up 11% from 160 million pounds sterling in 1997.

Unilever disappoints with 3% fall in annual profits
Article Abstract:
Food and consumer products group Unilever has announced 1995 pre-tax profits down by 3% from the previous year to 2.32 billion pounds sterling. There was slow growth for the Anglo-Dutch company, with only its Latin American, African and Asian units showing activity. Separately, Unilever has announced the acquisition of leading Chilean food company Consorcio Agro-Industrial de Malloa for 170 million Dutch guilders from BAT subsidiary Empresas CCT.

GrandMet profits down but optimism is high
Article Abstract:
GrandMet of the UK, a food and drink company, has reported a slight fall in pre-tax profits for the year to September, following the loss of distribution rights to Absolut vodka and Grand Marnier liqueur. However its Pillsbury food manufacturing and Burger King retailing operations have performed well.
