Cognac makers have been contending with a slump in the sales of their products, especially in France and Asia. The industry has attempted to bounce back with products such as the Cognac martini, and single malt, single district, and single distillery Cognacs. These products differ from traditional blended Cognac, which offered consistency on a year-by-year basis.

Calvados, Normandy's apple brady, offers sublime tastes to rival Cognac

Most US spirits lovers are not aware of Calvados, which can be as delicious as some of the best Cognacs. The brandy is made from apple varieties such as Bedans and Bisquets, and the finished product tasted somewhat like spiced apple pie. Places to find this French brandy are listed.
