Growing demand for organic food in France
Article Abstract:
Organic food products are chosen by French consumers for their quality, health benefits and taste, according to the European Federation of Processors of Organic Agricultural Products. The 'bio' market is growing by 15% a year and had sales of 3 billion in 1993. Monoprix, a supermarket chain, has its own label range of organic products, but believes that the organic sector is hindered by a lack of a well organised supply chain for products.

Consumers influenced by ethical standards
Article Abstract:
Consumers may boycott stores which do not meet their ethical standards according to a report by Gallup for CWS Retail of the UK, a cooperative retailer. Respondents felt that the food industry should be responsible for ensuring animals are treated correctly and 50% felt that retailers should not promote products from non-sustainable natural resources, and that packaging should be kept to a minimum.
