UK bread market continues to decline, despite premium growth
Article Abstract:
The bread market in the UK has fallen steadily during the past five years, although there is still fierce competition in the market. Own label bread is gaining market share on branded products. Soft grain and premium white bread have been the main product developments during the last five years. Traditional bakers have had to improve their ranges and quality of bread due to competition from supermarkets, many of which have their own in-store bakeries.

Paris planning to strengthen food hygiene laws
Article Abstract:
The Conseil d'Etat is considering proposed new legislation aimed at making food hygiene and safety rules more efficient and coherent. A significant clause in the new law concerns traceability to protect against disease, and there would be tighter controls on hormones and phytosanitary products. Independent consumer organisations are concerned that the proposals will mean that two different administrations will be responsible for the same work.
