Global growth pushes McDonald's ahead in first half

McDonald's, a fast food chain, has seen first half 1996 profits rise 9% to $722 million helped by its ongoing world expansion programme. The company plans to open 2,500 more restaurants in 1996, many of which will be outside the US. US sales were down, but turnover increased with the opening of 1,020 new outlets. The company continues to concentrate on value for money so that it can compete with rivals Burger King.

Fast food retailer McDonald's Corp. has announced a profit of $1.42 billion for 1995, up 16% from 1994. Turnover for the year was up by 18% to $9.8 billion. Global sales in the 89 countries where McDonald's is active increased by 27% in 1995, with profit outside the U.S. rising by 30%. Overall operating profit for 1995 was up 54%.

McDonald's serves up strong Q3 results

McDonald's reported an operating profit of $907.7 million and a net profit of $540.9 million for the third quarter and nine month period ended Sep 30, 1999. McDonald's signed a contract with the Italian airline Alitalia and will cater some Alitalia flights.
