The French winemaker Michel Laroche's attempt to make good wine in Napa Valley, CA, at Rutherford Hill while a good idea has failed. The wine has an esteemed name, but more time and effort was needed to adapt to California's climate and grapes.

Far Niente owner Gil Nickel succumbs to Cancer

Gil Nickel who built two of Napa Valley's most elaborate showcase estates died on October 30 2003 of cancer. He was passionate about wine, travel, race-car driving, collecting vintage cars and held high standards for his wines.
