Oregon grapples with wine tourism
Article Abstract:
The plans of a former sportswriter to build a lavish resort in Oregon's Willamette Valley near some of the state's highest-profile wineries are objected by some residents of the area who prefer the area's agricultural charm to rapid growth. Vintners do not want to lose good vineyard land to commercial property, and the issue should be resolved after the county commission's hearing, deciding how wine tourism will develop in Willamette Valley.

Cutting it finer in Willamette Valley
Article Abstract:
Willamette Valley is the largest American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Oregon, covering 3.5 million acres, although only a fraction of that is planted to grapes, and few new subappellations in 2005 on Oregon wine labels are expected. Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, McMinnville, Chehalem Mountains, Eola Hills and Ribbon Ridge are some of the AVAs approved by federal government for Willamette Valley.

Phylloxera spreads across Oregon vineyards
Article Abstract:
At least 100 acres of Oregon vineyards have been infested with the root louse phylloxera, leaving many vintners to replant on rootstock. Some vintners are taking a less aggressive approach, confident that the spread will be slow and containable.
