Poland the latest retail battleground
Article Abstract:
There are 10 shops for every 1,000 people in Poland. The concentration of retail outlets is the highest in Europe, but the country lacks supermarkets. Poland has one of the strongest economies in Eastern Europe and western stores are looking to expand there. The Polish retailers are concerned and want state protection, and the Association of Private Retail Trade and Services is asking for restrictions to be placed on western retailers. The trend will be for the small domestic retail trade to be replaced by major western outlets.
