Rare spirits and classified clarets mark May auctions
Article Abstract:
The results of May wine auctions in San Francisco, London and New York are presented. All major commercial auctions were over 90% sold, and all categories saw price increases in heated bidding. A lot of 17 cases named the 'Ultimate Millennium Superlot' sold for $260,000 to an anonymous caller at Sotheby's.

Bidders paid $3.19 million in a single day on Dec 6, 1996. A 1961 Chateau Latour sold for $12,650 a case, up 27% from 1995. Special items sold included 70 magnums of 1945 grand cru Burgundies from the collection of William AM Burden.
