Retail pressure forces producers to turn to IT

A study found 42% of UK and Irish food and drink companies questioned did not believe the use of information technology (IT) would help them become more competitive. Some 32% felt the utilization of IT would make a vital difference to how they operated. Over 50% of those questioned identified supply chain visibility as an important area of business practice. The use of IT is seen by some as a way of reducing costs, improving customer service and becoming more competitive. Small producers failed to understand how IT systems could improve their businesses.

IT the key to cutting costs, says new survey

Article Abstract:

Many leading food and drink manufacturers in the UK believe that information technology (IT) can help reduce costs and several feel IT will become increasingly more important in problem solving, according to a survey by Telelab for CGS (Hoskyns), a computer services company. The key problems for the food industry are price pressures and profit margins, and reducing staff levels was seen as an important issue.

Younger generation more likely to suffer from food poisoning, says food safety poll

Article Abstract:

Teenagers and young adults are more likely to suffer food poisoning that old age pensioners, who are more likely to follow manufacturers' guidelines, according to a survey. The survey marked the the start of the UK Foodlink National Food Safety Campaign which aims to increase public awareness about food safety. Of the children in the 7-14 age group surveyed, more girls observed safe food practices than boys.
