Three Bordeaux Chateaus forced to declassify this year's wines
Article Abstract:
The use of plastic sheeting to protect vines from rain has resulted in the loss of Appellation d'Origine Controlle classification by 3 French estates. Chateau Valandraud has been using the sheets since 1997 but must label the 2000 vintage as table wine.

Monbrison's Vonderheyden dies
Article Abstract:
Vonderheyden, owner of Chateau Monbrison, one of Bordeaux's finest cru bourgeois, died at 37 of leukemia. His winemaking style was known for its excellence, and Vonderheyden was known as a leader who was unwilling to compromise in winemaking.
