Truth and consequences
Article Abstract:
A December, 1998 issue of the French newsweekly L'Express reported that Bordeaux wines were tainted by wood preservative chemicals, which seeped in to young wines from the barrel. While there are no adverse health effects from the chemicals, the taste of the afflicted wines has suffered. The wineries of Bordeaux are actively trying to eliminate the problem, but some wonder at the nature of the cover up that kept the issue out of the press until the L'Express expose.
