Wait and see on 2005 California Cabernet
Article Abstract:
A blind tasting of the 2005 California Cabernet reveals that the wines show bright, ripe, vivid Cabernet fruit flavors, excellent balance and grace with tannins that are ripe, balanced and integrated. They are different from the wines of 2004, 2002 and 2001 since they do not have as much concentration of flavor, which may be due to huge yields and an attempt by winemakers to avoid high alcohol levels.

1979 California Cabernets have been described as Bordeaux-like due to the rain at harvest and the mild weather. The vintage was cherished by some as sophisticated and elegant. Results from a retrospective tasting of 27 Cabernets from 1979 are presented. Shafer Vineyards Cabernet was the top-scoring wine with 92 points on the 100-point scale.
