The New Orleans Opera Association charity wine auction raised $42,280 in Nov 1992. A 'Grand Food and Wine Tasting for Eight' in New Orleans, LA, was expanded by Chicago, IL, chef Charlie Trotter, who also offered dinner at his restaurant as part of the bid.

U.S. wine sales still brisk at top restaurants
Article Abstract:
Great restaurants have not been hit as hard as others during the recession. Wine sales are brisk, and Americans overwhelmingly prefer Chardonnay. Sommeliers surveyed also report Merlot, Champagnes, and California sparkling wines as selling well.

Hartford auction posts record; two more Connecticut sales set
Article Abstract:
Hartford's Wine and Ice charity auction, held Jan 29, 1993, had revenues of $75,000. The proceeds will go to benefit Connecticut Public Television and Radio. Some of the best wines did not receive the expected bids.
