Article Abstract:

The five counties that surround Traverse City, MI, are known for their Montmorency tart cherries. The region produces 230 million pounds of the fruit per year, and supplies 75% of all tart cherries. The trees blossom in mid-May, and the National Cherry Festival is held in July.
