Training to qualify for jobs and improve skills
Article Abstract:
A study on the training of workers before and after they are employed is presented. Results indicate that the proportion of employees who needed training to qualify for their jobs increases with age and that training can be acquired through schools, informal on-the-job training and formal company training programs, among others. Additionally, it is shown that the number of workers taking skills improvement training have increased since 1983 and that additional education contributed to this increase. These findings can help both workers and management in assessing job and skills training.
