Trends in entertainment

Article Abstract:

Statistics for 1989 revealed that entertainment commodities and services comprised 5.7% of the American household's budget. Entertainment expenses reached an all-time high in households with heads of the family aged 35 to 44, and was most pronounced among husband-wife families with an 18-year-old or older offspring. As children of the baby boom generation get older, with growing recreational time and discretionary income, they will have a decided effect on the leisure industry's trends.

Health care trends

Article Abstract:

The increasing costs of health care, namely hospital services and medication, pose a major problem to American families. The influx of new technologies, aging and growth of the population and possible malpractice cases also increase health care costs. Thus, Americans' health care expenses rise annually in double digits even if the government subsidizes a growing portion of the overall health expenditures.
