Waste watchers
Article Abstract:
Golden Gate Disposal and its sister company Sunset Scavenger Company collect 300 tons of food waste a day from the back stoops and loading docks of San Francisco's four-star restaurants, food markets, and microbreweries and transfer it to Jepson Prairie Organics that transforms them over a period of months into 'Four Course Compost'. The fertilizer is then sold to area farms as use of these fertilizers reduces the need for chemical additives, and nourishes fruits and vegetables.
