Commentary on "Protein Glycosylation and AGEs accumulation: an avian solution?
Article Abstract:
Iqbal et al have proposed that aminoguanidine, endogenous uric acid or dietary restriction may partly explain why naturally hyperglycemic birds have less accumulated pentosidine, an advanced glycosylated endproduct AGE, than in humans. Hyperglycemia is thought to contribute to the formation of AGE. Another factor that could explain why birds have less AGE is their higher level of physical activity. These findings may be significant for the treatment of diabetes.
