Commerce Puts Minority Businesses into the Computer Information Loop
Article Abstract:
The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) of the United States Department of Commerce supplies information to minority owned business. A study done in 1981 showed such businesses had low formation rates, low expansion rates and high failure rates. The new MBDA offers programs to improve growth and reduce failure in minority businesses. Information in areas such as management and marketing is available through centers in large cities with minority populations. Computers that can access large information data bases are available in the centers.

GSA's Computer Store: The Concept Works
Article Abstract:
Late in August 1983, the General Service Administration (GSA) started the Office Technology Plus (CTP), an experiment in purchasing personal computer technology. The concept is working successfully so that the prime contractor, Math Box, has created a separate division to handle the government contracts. A table shows the sale of personal computer software packages including the top ten sellers.

The separation of banking and commerce

Recent banking law reforms are discussed as well as possible reforms which would allow banks and commercial firms to affiliate. Nonfinancial companies are currently prohibited from merging with banks.
