The limits of politics

Article Abstract:

The major political consequence of globalization is the absence of distinction between the government and opposition party policies. Western social science has become redundant due to globalizing changes in economic and technological spheres. An increase in transnational organized crime and development of a world market for American communications systems is determining the limits of independent national political activity.

Cosmopolitan legalism meets 'Thin Community': problems in the global governance of intellectual property

Article Abstract:

The global governance regime for IPRs (intellectual property rights) is established but the political community on which the justification of intellectual property itself depends is far from globalized. However, without the replication of the democratic elements of state rule at the global level, any global polity will remain only a 'thin community', unable to fully articulate global community interests.

Global governance, participation and the public sphere

Article Abstract:

The possibility of democratic and legitimate decision-making at the global level- in both its normative and its analytical dimensions-from the perspective of a deliberative theory of politics is explored. It is emphasized that the democratization of international governance ultimately depends upon the creation of an appropriate transnational public sphere.
