The political economy of inaction

Article Abstract:

A study developed a simple political inaction model in a democracy with two parties. The model presents the scenario in which the two political parties are contented with their below-standard performance instead of bringing up new issues. In the proposed situation, political parties are afraid to raise issues which they may not successfully defend and which may result in the loss of a party during elections. The study suggests a weakness in democracy in that a wide representation of political issues will likely lead to less political action.
