Article Abstract:

The authors discuss the factors involved in the political corruption investigations in Italy in 1992. Focus is given to Italy's subsequent attempt to restructure its democracy. The authors also describe the political struggles which followed in the wake of the reconstruction, specifically the fall of the Prodi government in 1998.

The Northern League (NL) of Italy changed its posture from Euro-scepticism to Euro-positivism. The NL changed its policy positions to Europe in order to become more attractive to FI and become a part of a winning electoral coalition in the national elections in 2001.
