Blood pressure reactivity in urban youth during angry and normal talking
Article Abstract:
A pilot study evaluates blood pressure reactivity along with gender and biologic maturity in teenagers discussing angry life circumstances and how their life is going. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure went up during the talking, and adding biologic maturity to the analysis showed males to have higher systolic blood pressure than was true for females in the protocol. In general, mature subjects had both higher systolic and higher diastolic blood pressures than did less mature subjects. Continued research on this aspect of the health of adolescents may add to understanding of gender differences in adult cardiovascular disease.

Predictors of ambulatory blood pressure: identification of high-risk adolescents
Article Abstract:
Predictors of ambulatory blood pressure have been studied to find ways to identify high-risk adolescents. Adolescence can be a pivotal period for developing risk for hypertension and other cardiovascular morbidity. In a multiethnic sample of 41 adolescents of both sexes, 15-16 years of age, resting blood pressure (BP), BP reactivity and 24-hour ambulatory MP were measured. Results supported the hypothesis that BP levels during reactivity testing better predict ambulatory BP than levels measured at rest with standard protocol. Ethnic group variations in ambulatory BP were significant statistically.
