Elasticity estimates from a dynamic model of interrelated demands for private and public acute health care
Article Abstract:
A study of hospital care in the United Kingdom has found that demand is similarly elastic for public and priavte sector health care, and changes in waiting times have a greater effect in the long term than the short term. The study also found substitution to operate between the two markets, and little evidence for demand induced by medical care suppliers, though there may be demand effects from indirect suppliers. Prices for public sector care were derived from waiting lists for patients.

The effect of uncertainty on the demand for medical care, health capital and wealth
Article Abstract:
Uncertainty tends to affect the demand of elderly individuals of medical care, health capital and wealth. Utilization of a simplified form of a dynamic Grossman household production model showed that elderly people manifest precautionary behavior when faced by uncertainty. Manifestation of precautionary behavior is directed towards regulating elderly individuals' expected utility across time periods.
