Health care unplugged; small, but mighty, wireless computers promise instant access to data - at half the cost of PCs

Article Abstract:

Wireless technology could provide the healthcare industry with an instant, inexpensive access to information. Doctors and nurses need information when they make a decision. Radio frequencies provide wireless networks with their information transmission capabilities rather than bulky, expensive cables. Data quality may be improved to assist in malpractice cases.

Oklahoma's highway to health

Article Abstract:

Oklahoma has the largest telemedicine network in the US. It was established in 1992 and links 40 hospitals. The network will attempt to transmit electrocardiograms and carotid Doppler in 1997. The network was developed by Oklahoma City, OK-based InTelemed and subsidized by the state of Oklahoma. The network will merge with OneNet in 1997.

Marriotsville, MD-based Bon Secours Health System has 19,000 employees in six states with revenues that will reach $1.1 billion in 1997. The health system has grown through a series of acquisitions, mergers and alliances in an attempt to increase its presence in the current communities it serves to deliver more consistent health care.
