Hypertension in an inner-city minority population
Article Abstract:
Cardiovascular disease's sequelae can present problems for inner-city, minority populations who may lack the money or the access to medical care to adequately resolve their medical problems. Research on the medical care of older people has not paid adequate attention to the care of low-income and minority aged. Research has shown that African Americans suffer disproportionately from hypertension. Consistent with this fact, African Americans have an increased risk of heart disease and of stroke mortality. Findings of the Health Belief Model are given. Nurses can be an important part of health promotion and disease prevention and cardiovascular nurses can use their expert knowledge towards this end.

Multivariate cost-effectiveness analysis: an application to optimizing ambulatory care for hypertension
Article Abstract:
An extension of the cost-effectiveness analysis (CES) model is developed based on multivariate regression analysis. The method is then used to analyze treatment costs in hypertension clinics. Cost and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) predictors were determined and classified as 'unambiguous' or 'trade-off' depending on their effects on cost and DBP. It is shown that the application of unambiguous clinic changes decreased costs by 33% and improved DBP.
