Physician Incentive Compensation in Group Practice: A Review with Suggestions for Improvement
Article Abstract:
Physician compensation in group practice is impacted by the regulatory environment and by cost inflation in the health care industry. A carefully structured compensation plan is needed to insure that physicians are actively involved in the education of cost inflation and that they are operating at a high level of productivity. A review of the current compensation methods in use reveals that improvements are needed. The Lovelace Medical Foundation (LMF) has developed a multidimensional compensation plan. The LMF plan is continually undergoing revision as group practice goals and doctor needs are better understood. The LMF experience suggests that incentive compensation plans for group practice should give close attention to cost control in ancillary services, managing indirect costs and the quality of care provided.

Reiteration of Problem Definition in Health Services Administration
Article Abstract:
This report deals with the problem solving aspect inherent in health administration and on problem definition per se. Defining the problems of health administrators by those in the health care industry are deliberated and analyzed. Administration officials must make choices which ascertain the efficiency of the health facility management in clinical or administrative problem solving. There has been development of a heuristic trial and error model acknowledging that some problems are poorly structured, non-routine and in want of perception. The perception of a problem at the systemic level increases the chances of risk for the health institution. A rational programmed model supposes that a specific problem pursues an optimal solution.
