Neonatal nurses' knowledge of and attitudes toward caring form cocaine-exposed infants and their mothers
Article Abstract:
Many nurses appear to have strong feelings about working with cocaine-addicted infants and their mothers. A poll of 215 nurses was conducted regarding the basics of cocaine abuse, cocaine's effects on newborns, and their attitudes about working with affected infants and their mothers. Respondents were more likely to feel it worth their time to care for cocaine-addicted infants than their cocaine abusing mothers, particularly if they had experience working with this population. Knowledge about cocaine abuse varied widely.

Neonatal Blood Component Therapy
Article Abstract:
Approximately 300,000 severely ill newborns receive blood transfusions each year, yet blood product administration is controversial. Risks association with transfusion include metabolic and cardiovascular complications and graft versus host disease (GVHD). Blood transfusion and blood component therapy should only be performed if the perceived benefits out-weigh the potential risks. Providing specially processed blood products is one way to prevent transmission of donor infections as well as GVHDs is also controversial.
