ACCME restores ad ban on journal CME articles
Article Abstract:
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) will implement beginning Jan. 1, 1999, a policy that disallows advertising within a medical journal article approved for Category 1 PRA credits. The ruling, which was originally adopted in 1998 and suspended for comment and review, drew strong opposition from the Association of Medical Publications (AMP) and the Coalition for Healthcare Communication. Clinical journals such as "Hospital Practice," "Postgraduate Medicine" and "Hospital Medicine" are expected to be affected by the advertising ban.
