Ready. Set. Wait! Don't just make deals for the sake of making deals. Make them because it's the right thing to do
Article Abstract:
Hospitals and physicians must remain focused on their mutual goals if they are to successfully integrate. Hospitals need to make sure that buying physicians' practices in exchange for giving physicians a measure of management and policy-making authority is compatible with their operative goals such as reducing costs and delivering specialized services in addition to primary care. Many hospitals are entering physician-hospital integration agreements without first thinking about the implications such agreements could have for their operation.

Making change pay
Article Abstract:
Hospital administrators are using employee compensation plans to enhance employee performance and encourage teamwork. Managers face challenges in designing team-based compensation plans and in ensuring that compensation plans are equitable. At the management level, compensation plans are more likely to include bonuses and other incentives than before. In addition, compensation administrators are reevaluating compensation packages given to physicians during a push to acquire physician practices during the early 1990s.
