Two HMOs play 'Let's make a deal.' (Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and Kaiser Permanente's Northwest Division)
Article Abstract:
Two nonprofit health maintenance organizations, Kaiser Permanente's Northwest Div., based in Portland, OR, and Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound, WA, have agreed to consider a merger. Executives plan to seek ways to improve the finances of the two health maintenance organizations and provide needed improvements such as new information systems. Economies of scale may enable the two HMOs to remain nonprofit and provide valuable community services.
