Vascular Infections: Medical and Surgical Therapies
Article Abstract:
A major cause of surgical wound infections is contamination by skin organisms during surgery. Nurses should identify vascular patients about the increased risk for infection. Among these vascular infections are leg ulcers, prosthetic graft infections, and aortoenteric fistulas. Infection in patients with vascular disease is life-threatening and factors that precipitate infection are crucial to recognize.

Facts and fallacies of patient positioning and hemodynamic measurement
Article Abstract:
Some long-standing nursing practices used to take blood pressure and heart function measurements may be at odds with research findings. Many accurate measurements can be taken in a partial sitting position if care is taken to level and zero the gauges. These practices can minimize the frequent patient re-positioning typically required to obtain these routine measurements.
