'97 statistics: work deaths are up

Article Abstract:

The estimated number of deaths arising from unintentional work injury stands at 5,100 for 1997, up by 2% from the revised 1996 figure of 5,001. However, after registering four successive increases, the 93,800 unintentional-injury deaths in 1997 represents a 0.5% decrease from the 1996 total. The number of work injuries and the total of 19.3 million for disabling injuries amounted to costs of $127.7 million and $3.8 million, respectively. Motor vehicle accidents led the cause of unintentional-injury deaths while most unintentional deaths at home were due to falls.
