Hospital rate-setting nears end; N.Y. bill also urges cuts in residency slots, keeps charity subsidies
Article Abstract:
The Health Care Reform Act, which is expected to be signed by New York Gov. George Pataki, will eliminate the practice of rate-setting for hospital charges involving private payers. Starting in Jan 1997, hospitals and insurers will negotiate hospital charges. The proposed legislation retains charity subsidies and encourages teaching hospitals to reduce the number of residency slots.
