Multiproduct nonlinear pricing
Article Abstract:
A common assumption when working on mechanism design is that a single scalar variable can capture all private information. However, a model for analyzing multiproduct linear pricing shows that firms usually choose to exclude a nontrivial set of low-demand consumers from the market, a result that contrasts sharply with the assumption. This problem can be remedied by adopting a strategy closely following the scalar approach. Continuous modeling of consumers is shown to be more beneficial than discrete modeling.
