A l'aventure

Article Abstract:

The CD-ROM 'A l'aventure' is produced under the direction of Mary Ann Lyman-Hager and published by John Wiley in conjunction with an elementary French textbook of the same title. The CD-ROM includes a variety of texts read aloud by a native speaker, with definitions of key terms and phrases in both English and French, notes on grammar, and some relevant cultural information. The program is designed for beginners but also includes some level 2-3 texts. The CD-ROM and the textbook are not well integrated, and the reading voices are sometimes gratingly inauthentic.

Pediatricians say mold from floods can kill infants

Article Abstract:

The American Academy of Pediatrics issued warnings about respiratory illnesses in infants that result from mold spores growing from flood-damaged residences. The spores from Staphylococcus atra have already caused at least two dozen infant deaths since 1994. Pulmonary hemorrhage usually results after the spores' attachment to infant lungs. Exposure to cigarette smokes exacerbate the effects of the spores. Parents are advised to eliminate stagnant water caused by flooding in their homes.
