Information, technology and culture: an ethnography of information technology and modernist business organization
Article Abstract:
An ethnographic study was conducted to determine the cultural effects of introducing a computerized information system (IS) in a company. Focus was on the arrival at an interpretative text. An IS was determined to be only an element in an information environment. Comprehensive IS claiming to provide proper data, main information kernels and correct working approaches were found to be potential problems. IS was also found to be produced in and productive of the sociocultural environment where it is sited.

The decline in the number of students taking up science and technology courses underscores the need for school and industry partnership programs that will encourage young people to develop core skills regarding such courses. The programs should involve modern teaching methods that will promote the basic skills needed by industries, including communication and inter-personal skills. This approach will enable various industries to meet their manpower requirements.
