Congressman Joel Thomas Broyhill represented Virginia's Tenth Congressional District in the U.S. Congress from 1953 to 1975, and was influential as a member of the House Post Office and Civil Service and District of Columbia Committees. Broyhill, as a conservative Republican, generally supported less government, lower taxes, and less federal spending, with a few exceptions.
