John A. Boehner, US representative from Ohio, is known among members of Congress as a serious, pro-business lawmaker and as one of the few senior Republicans who can work well with Democrats. His greatest achievement as a legislator came in 2002, when he helped shepherd through Congress President George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, the goal of which is to ensure that all schoolchildren become proficient in mathematics and reading.
