Gem and mineral clubs can provide wonderful educational programs, given the clubs' knowledgeable instructors, state-of-the art equipment and facilities, expert instruction, and peer advice. Among these clubs, the San Francisco Gem and Mineral Society is the most popular and respected across the US.

The Altmuhl Valley's limestone terrain in Bavaria has weathered geologic formations and trapped ancient flying insects, twigs of inland trees and flying reptiles into the calcareous mud. These fossils are of paleontological interest and has aroused the interest of many fossil collectors.
