The War of 1812 was unconventional. It was fought over US trading rights with Great Britain and it was many-sided, consisting of American Indians, British and French as the enemy. At the same time, the Napoleonic Wars were occurring The war established a boundary between the US and Canada.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is an American classic

Article Abstract:

A brief discussion on how American literature became distinct from English literature is recounted along with a retelling of Washington Irving's story. The ten-cent commemorative stamp was issued Oct 10, 1974. Irving, who died at age 76 in 1856, is buried at Sleepy Hollow cemetery in NY.
