American themes on postage stamps abound for collectors of that idiom. On Aug 5, 200 years ago, Dr. William Thonrton was presented with a $500 award from Pres George Washington for his design of the Capitol building. The history of the the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., is discussed.

Lone Star state is popular with topical collectors
Article Abstract:
A brief history of Texas and US-Mexican relations is given. The US Postal Service honored Texas with commemorative stamps in 1936, 1945, and 1986. On June 16, 1995 another stamp honoring the state was issued. It is the only state that was an independent nation before statehood.

Numerous Mayans on stamps for topicals
