Benny Green
Article Abstract:
Saxophonist, writer and broadcaster Benny Green was taught to play the soprano saxophone by his father at the age of 14. He continued learning this instrument with a private tutor, and then switched to the tenor sax. He studied at the Royal College of Music for a time, but in summer 1952 joined pianist Ralph Sharon's big band. Later in 1952 he joined a new nine-piece band formed by Ronnie Scott. He wrote a weekly column for the New Musical Express, and in the early 1960s judged some of the Inter University Jazz contests.

The Conscious Collective is a group of squatters who are artists and musicians in Deptford, London, England, who organise parties and platforms for arts groups. Events in derelict buildings attract audiences of about 400. The Urban Free Festival with music, healing and a craft market in Fordham Park, Deptford, has council permission for the third time. The group is considerate of local residents and cooperates with fire and police officers.
