Combination first day covers are ones in which related stamps are placed on an envelope and the first day cancellation stamp is affixed for the new stamp. Examples of features that link stamps are, subject matter such as Black abolitionists, or denomination, such as $5 stamps.

A brief history of APS-related first day covers
Article Abstract:
On January 4, 1974 an 11-cent airmail post card was released from the newly opened American Philatelic Society's sub-station at State College, PA. Other first day covers that have been released in conjunction with the APC are described.

Collectors can acquire FDCs easily from mail order firms that advertise in philatelic publications such as First Days. Mail bid sales are another good way to acquire FDCs. Collectors participate by fax, mail, telephone, or in person.
