Usage of the best color print films does not guarantee that color saturation expectations will be met if the processing is done by a professional lab. Despite processing innovations in recent years, processors have a new problem with a 'short-exposure reciprocity effect' created by a short processing exposure time.

Article Abstract:

Choosing a color film is an exciting challenge nowadays because there is a different kind of film for almost any occasion. Ninety films were used and analyzed according to resolution, sharpness, color saturation, granularity, contrast and latitude. Brief comments on results are provided.

Six versions of color slide film, either new or improved, offer photographers choices among preferences in contrast, tonal separation, grain, 'pushability' and resolution. Some of the overall best results came from the Agfa RS 50 and the Kodak Ektachrome P1600 professional slide film.
